Description
Jeff Gomez is an interdisciplinary artist focusing on abstract ceramic sculpture. With a decade of experience in ceramics, he employs both hand-building techniques and the wheel to create dynamic, emotive forms. A 2019 BFA graduate of LIU Post, where he received the Rose Krebs Ceramic Excellence Award, Gomez shifts away from external references, instead drawing inspiration from internal dialogue and subconscious exploration. His work investigates interoception—the awareness of internal sensations—and how emotions shape perception and form. His practice extends beyond ceramics to include painting and photography, each medium offering a different lens through which he examines personal and psychological themes.
Gomez’s ongoing series, Blue from the Inside, delves into the physicality of line as a representation of thought patterns and emotional states. By embracing the fluidity of form and the universally resonant color blue, he aims to connect with viewers on a subconscious level, evoking the tension between the inner child and the adult ego. His work invites contemplation on how emotions manifest in structure and space, creating a dialogue between personal experience and sculptural expression.
